Excellent product, very good quality, I had other sanders before and this this one is the greatest
The Bosch Finishing Sander is obviously well constructed. The sanding surface of 1/2 sheet allows for more control and uniformity in sanding flat surfaces such as table tops. The dust control system is unique and efficient.
I need to use a powered sander to sand flat a large area on my boat deck that has a very slight curve (long story, don't want to get into it). But as long as this is the powered tool does the work and not me, I am fine with that (I don't do this for a living anyway). What I really like are: (1) 1/2 sheet is large and can cover a lot more area than a 6" sand disc. (2) I can use regular sandpapers from local store, no need to mail order sand discs (more convenient and probably cost less). The long sand board is very labor intensive, and I cannot rely on the 6" random orbital sander to make sure I can sand the area flat because it is relatively small for the area. (4) I don't need to use that long sanding board as often as before. This 1/2 sheet sander covers a lot more area than the 6" random orbital sander, and I have a higher confidence that the area will be flat when I sand it with this sander. Now, I still need to use the long sanding board to make sure the overall area is flat. I was using a combination of a long sand board and a 6" random orbital sander (also from Bosch) to sand down the epoxy/fairing compound. (2) It comes with a holes-template (hole-puncher) to punch holes on stored bought sandpaper in one pass.
But I find myself use it less than before and this is a good thing because using that long sanding board is very labor intensive. Honestly the 6" random orbital sander probably can remove material faster than this sander. (3) It filters out dusts very effectively, and I don't need to use my noisy shop-vac (I still wear face mask though). (5) It is not noisy.I just like it.
(had it in 3 days total shipping time)Folks, I have spent over $16,000.00 at Amazon since June 1, 2008. To connect this sander to a ShopVac with the smaller 1 1/2" hose, buy these 2 items:Bosch RS006 Hose Adapter for Various SandersFein 921072K13 Step AdaptorThe Fein step adapter is made of rubber - not plastic. like I did by getting it at TOOLS FOR LESS DOT COM. This sander is an excellent product. I left a little extra rubber on mine so I could use a hose clamp if needed to secure it to the Bosch RS006 - if warranted.I hope I've helped you with this review, both about the product and the price. I want to clear this up here and now.
So keep the $40 in your pocket ($143 shipped) and buy yourself some sandpaper with the extra money.Back to the sander:Confusion exists with all the multitude of adapters to connect this Bosch sander to a vacuum hose.
(10 months ago) and I'll be the first to say Amazon has been very reliable and the $79 prime membership is a wonderful deal.
(DO NOT BUY Bosch brand adapters other than the RS006.).
It is very quiet, does not vibrate your hands to pieces, easy to change sandpaper, PLUS you can save $40.
It's easy to cut where it will fit snugly on the Bosch RS006 adapter.
However, I felt compelled to let you know that Amazon isn't always the lowest price.
(sorry Amazon folks) When you spend as much money as I do, you look for deals, and this is NOT a good price at Amazon.
Make sure you TAKE YOUR TIME cutting the Fein step adapter.
I rely heavily on these reviews and appreciate your comments as well.Cheers,Jeff
I do end tables, dining room tables and sideboards. I have used this sander extensively for a little over two years. It's easy to change paper, the dust collector works well and it sands perfectly. The best part - I bought it at an estate sale for $35. I would gladly pay full price though, for another.
